After deciding to start dancing (the most exciting decision you can make!) it is highly recommended to purchase ballet costume. All the children in the class wear the same costume, and we also use it as a base costume for the end of the year concert.
1. A light pink cotton leotard without sleeves (not lycra).
2. Light pink tights with a full leg for winter, short white socks for summer.
3. A light pink short chiffon skirt.
4. Pink ballet shoes made from leather or material (whichever is more comfortable) with a split sole if possible.
5. For winter it is recommended to purchase a pink crossover to wear over the leotard.
• Important: all the above should be clearly marked with the child’s name to avoid confusion. You should also bring a big plastic bag for your belongings so they won’t be lost while dancing, especially in winter when there are many items.
Hair should be gathered in a bun (or in a pony tail if the hair is short) before the class starts. Bobby pins and hairnets are sold at Target. If you don’t know how to make a bun, don’t be shy, I’ll show you!
It is easier for the teacher to instruct the student when the hair is kept tight, because then the position of the neck, shoulders and head is clearly visible. It is also easier and safer for the dancer and fellow students to dance, concentrating on the moves rather than the hair, and it also looks much better.
